Lady Jasmine is away on business, so when Elizabeth finds herself with some spare time on a remarkably mild December day, all she can think of is heading out to the mudflats. Dressed for the country in practical jeans, jumper, and rubber boots, she steps boldly into the rich brown clay, rapidly sinking to the tops of her boots, and then slowly succumbs to the lure of the mud, kneeling, sitting, slithering, and finally lying face-down in the soft embrace of the riverbank.
