ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Here's my take on the #IceBucketChallenge

Now I know a lot of you are getting annoyed
Seems these ice bucket challenges are hard to avoid
They're fillin' up our newsfeeds, seems we don't have a choice
But you, yes YOU, listen to my voice
These videos are receiving a lot of negativity
But since when did Facebook keep you in captivity?
You have a choice to click play
You make the choice to get on Facebook every day
Now I know it's kinda' idiotic to watch people torture themselves
Like dominoes and robots or Santas Little elves
Do they really understand what it is that they're doing?
Is this a worthless trend that society is misconstruing?
In the words of Blimey Cow, are we "mindless consumers"-
Obsessed with candy crush and the celebrity rumors?
Now I'm gettin' sidetracked, let me take a step back
My mind was goin' off on a diversionary attack
Yes, sometimes this challenge is a little overdone
But some people like that stuff, they think that it's fun
You might think it's funny to watch someone freeze
But have you heard of the name Peter Frates?
He's the whole reason that this challenge began
Because ALS attacked him as a 27-year-old man
This disease deteriorates the spinal cord and the nerves
It's a paralyzing killer, without any cures
This isn't just a game so that you can laugh
A game of ice tag on a Cause's behalf
I was challenged by my cousin, Nathaniel Smith
But I wasn't gonna treat this with the importance of a myth
The point of this challenge is to raise awareness
To educate others about ALS
Now, you might enjoy watching me get soaked
But I'm hoping there's more that I have evoked
You don't have to be challenged to let others know
You don't have to dump ice on yourself 'cause they say so
If you do it for no reason, not for the Cause
There's no point in doing it, it's not for applause
It's not about having guts, entertainment, or an easy way out
Maybe you should give or be an advocate. it's worth thinking about
Do a heart check and be sure of your intentions
It's not so crazy to think out of this dimension!
So now it's time for me to ask you a question:
Is the ice bucket challenge just a crazy obsession?
Let's give worth to our actions, let's be sincere
Don't be a bystander who will only sneer
Please don't get offended. I'm not tryin' to start a fight
I just dream that we all would live life right
My Father Above calls me to live a life that is more
than society and trends and the everyday bore
Now I challenge you to let others know-
If by ice or a post or a gift to bestow.
Do it with purpose. do it for a reason
And now it's time for me to start freezin'
