I was nominated three times for the Ice Bucket Challenge. We lost my Uncle Con to ALS five years ago, and I would love to see this disease wiped off the planet.
That said, I like to know a lot about the charities I support or promote, especially ones who are less focused on research and more on marketing-focused outreach initiatives. So in the spirit of the challenge, I'm pouring ice on my head, but instead of nominating others, I nominate you to learn about the ALS Therapy Development Institute because they're one of several great organizations who are really doing the work.
Almost all of their money goes towards their research for an ALS cure. If this past month has got you thinking about ALS research and wanting to donate, please consider giving to ALS-TDI, or to another organization that aligns with your values ALSA, the charity running this challenge, has raised more than $100m from their efforts, and as of this post, committed to giving ALS-TDI a $3m grant. They can do a lot more with direct donations.
